Onwards and Upwards!

The journey down under has turned out be successful for Chief Ironside. Chief's first race in Australia the Toorak handicap didn't show his true colours knowing he could do a lot better than that, the team and Australian Bloodstock entered him into the Schweppes Crystal Mile, a Gr.2 race on Cox Plate day.

Chief Ironside was one of the outsiders for this race but that didn't stop anyone believing a big race could be expected. The classy Jamie Spencer was booked to ride both Chief Ironside and Danceteria on the day. Spencer tucked Chief Ironside into the front end of the pack just behind the leaders at the start of the race. As the race progressed Spencer and Chief looked very comfortable and as the race progressed it looked ever more likely that Chief was going to run a huge race. Coming into the final bend Spencer was the final one to come off the bridle. The duo managed to get up just before the line and beat Cliffs Edge in a photo. It is Chief Ironside's first win since joining the yard and we hope to expect a lot more from Chief who has clearly got the ability to compete with the best. Another impressive run in a Group race and another Group win for the yard.
