Thundering Blue wins the Sky Bet York Stakes (Group 2)

Having always performed exceptionally well at York, Thundering Blue was entered into the Sky Bet York Stakes on the 28th of July 2018. Thundering blue ran superbly only to narrowly miss out on the John Smith's Cup so the obvious choice was the group 2 Sky Bet York Stakes. A field of seven ran in the group 2 race, Elarqam being the horse to be feared the most, the colt out of Frankel was the bookies favourite with an sp of 5/4. Thundering Blue would go off joint second favourite alongside Forest Ranger. Fran Berry was on board Thundering Blue for the second time.

Thundering Blue was drawn in stall six and sat right out the back for the majority of the race before launching his challenge 2 and a half furlongs out, it became a nail biting race after Blue got squeezed in between Smart Call and Brorocco, remarkably Fran and Blue stayed resilient and powered up the last furlong to pip Brorocco and Elarqam on the line and win the Sky Bet York Stakes. Thundering Blue gives the yard its very first group race winner and having Thundering Blue in the yard has been a massive asset to the teams success. Everyone who played a part in the success of Thundering Blue deserves massive credit and a massive thank you to Kim Johnstone who's helped Thundering Blue become the such well supported and tremendous horse he is today.
