I chose this beautifully bred filly by Mehmas, out of Mizdirection by Mizzen Mast, a family bursting with class and speed. Mizdirection was an exceptional mare, winning the Breeders’ Cup Sprint twice, and her sire, Mizzen Mast, was trained by Criquette Head-Maarek, under whom I had the privilege to work for at the time.
This filly was born in late May, so she’s still developing physically and has plenty of improvement to come. Even at this stage, she’s a lovely type, a good walker with balance, quality, and a strong, athletic frame that will only strengthen with time.
Her sire, Mehmas, is one of the most consistent and popular stallions in Europe, renowned for producing fast, tough, and genuine performers who win plenty of races.
Given her later foaling date, she might not be one for the very early two-year-old races, but from mid to late summer onwards, she should really come into her own. That timing, combined with her pedigree and scope, made her tremendous value for money, and she also holds excellent resale potential for the future.
All in all, she’s a filly with a speedy pedigree, a strong physical profile, and the potential to progress with time.
